Kolathu Family Tree

Kolathu Thomman Vaidyan

"Thy faithfulness endures to all generations"(Ps.119:90).

The family tree of Maramon Kolathu has five branches as given in the second edition of the book. Thomas Vaidyan , son of Kolathu Thoman Vaidyan had two sons namely Idukkula Thomas and Kolathu Ouseph Vaidyan ( Maha Vaidyan) . Manthanathu branch is the offsprings of Idukkula who moved out to Edanadu after marriage and then returned back to Maramon to settle down at Manthanathu house. Ouseph Vaidyan continued to stay in the Kolathu House. He had five sons and three daughters and his sons stayed at Puliyelil, Kolathu, Kalthrayil and Perakathu houses and thus the family has five branches namely

(1) Manthanathu (2) Puliyelil (3) Kolathu (4) Kalatharayil (5) Perakath .

Manthanathu branch

Thomas Vaidyan, son of KolathuThommanVaidyan, married from the EdathuaMadakkasseril family. Thomas Vaidyan had two sons—Idukkula Thomas and Joseph Vaidyan. Idukkula married from the EdanattilParathottilPurayidathil family and stayed there. As staying there was inconvenient, he later came to stay in Manthanathu house in Maramon.

Idukkula had a son, Mathai, and a daughter, who married from Kuzhuvamannil in Kuriyannur. Mathai married twice. In his first marriage, he had a daughter, who married from AanikkattilChirattamannilThottathil.

Mathai’s second wife was Mariamma of AanikkattilKarimbinamannil. The couple had six sons and two daughters. The sons were Abraham, Thomas, Mathai, Varughese, Yohannan and Joseph. Aleyamma and Rahelamma were the daughters. Abraham lived up to the age of 85, Thomas 92, Mathai 79, Varughese 85, Joseph 81 and Yohannan 86.

Puliyelil branch

The eldest son of Kolathu Joseph Vaidyan, from his first wife ofPuthenkavuAyroorkuzhiyil was PuliyelilThommaVaidyan a well-known Ayurveda practitioner like his father. ThommaVaidyan’s first wife was from the NedumbrayarParackamannil family. The couple had a son, Joseph Vaidyan (also known as Kunjuvaidyan), and two daughters.

Kunjuvaidyan stayed at Kalluvettaamkulathil (Chirayirambu, Maramon) and practised Ayurveda. He and wife Mariamma, who was from the MeprathuVelliyamballilMallappally family, had five sons and four daughters. Kujuvaidyan died at age 82.

ThomaVaidyans second wife was Aleyamma from Cheruthottathil, Melukara. They had Two sons and five daughters. The eldest son was P T Mathai who stayed at Pullankandathil and was married to Annamma from Anjilivelil, MAramon, The second son was P T Thomas who continued to stay at the Puliyelil house was married to Mariamma from Valiyamannil, Mallapally.

Kolathu branch

PhiliposeKolathu, who stayed at the Kolathu house, was the second son of Joseph Vaidyan and his second wife who was from Karackal. Philipose married Achamma, daughter of PoovathurThottathil Chacko Vaidyan. Philipose had Three sons and four daughters.

The eldest son John ( Yohannan Vaidyan) was married to Mariamma , Charunilkunnathil, Nallanikunnu and continued to stay at the Kolathu House.

The second son K P Joseph was married to Annamma, VadakkethakaSrambickal, Mavelikara and after her demise to Anamma from Aviyottu family. They are settled Chirayirambu, KalluvettamkulathuKolathuhouse.

The third son K P Chacko was married to Annamma ,Karivumcheril, Mylapra. After the demise of his first wife he married Mariamma ,Kallodikuzhiyil, Vadasserikkara. After staying for a short while at Maramon he moved to Vellapara, Konni.

Kalathrayil branch

Born in Malayalam era 1021, Kalathrayil Joseph Vaidyan (who was also called KochunjuVaidyan) was a well-known ‘marmani’ practitioner. He was the third son of Joseph Vaidyan. He is married to Saramma, Mulavelil, Maramon. Joseph Vaidyan has three daughters and three sons. They stayed at Kalathrayil in Maramon.

The eldest son was Joseph Vaidyan( KunjikkaVaidyan). He is married to Annamma Valiyamalyil, Punnackadu. They are settled at Kalathrayil, Maramon.

Second son KunjandiVaidyan married to Annamma ,Malayil, Nedumprayar. They are settled in ChirayirambuKalluvettamkulath.

Thirs son Rev K J Thomas ( Senior) was priest with the Marthoma Church, He is married to Mariamma, PlackizhKochupurackal, Eraviperoor. They are settled in Maramon.

Perakathu branch

KolathuKunjikkaVaidyan (also known as Varghese Vaidyan) was a well-known Ayurveda practitioner. The fourth son of Kolathu Joseph Vaidyan, he married Mariamma,Perakathu, Vanchithra. And settled down at Perakathu, Vanchithra.They had four daughters and five sons.

The eldest son is Joseph aka Mathai. He is married to Saramma, PoovanmalaKalapurayil, Niranam and staying at PerakathuMalayil.

The second son P V Chacko ( UnnuniVaidyan) Married Annamma, Eettichuvadu, Ranni. They have settled at PerakathuMannil.

The third son P V Thomas ( Kunjomachen) married Sosamma, Parackal, Maramon. They are settled in Perakathu house, Vanchithra.

The fourth son PV Titus ( Dathochan) married to Rahelamma , Poovathoorthottathils. They are settled at Chirayirambu, Maramon

The fifth son Dr. P V Benjamin ( Benyachan) married to Annamma, Kuridamannil, Ranni. He was conferred with Padmasri by the India government for his services in the medical field . They were settled in Bangalore.

This constitutes a brief our family tree for the first known four generations
